BRITISH STEAM LOCOMOTIVE OVERHAUL WORK | КАПИТАЛЬНЫЙ РЕМОНТ ПАРОВОЗА В ВЕЛИКОБРИТАНИИ
Steam locomotives at the London, Midland & Scottish Railway in Britain undergo a very complete rebuild at their fantastic shops. Terrific film from 1938 and glimpse into a great past. This film is a fascinating glimpse into the world of a steam locomotive servicing facility.
In the film, we follow the locomotive from first inspection through complete dismantling, lifting of the frame from the wheels, detaching of the boiler, inspection of parts, replacement and repair and then final reassembly. When the completed locomotive is ready to leave the factory it is taken to the paint shop to emerge almost as a new machine.
Although steam locomotives were withdrawn from normal railway service in Great Britain in 1968, due to sustained public interest including a locomotive preservation movement, steam hauled passenger trains can still be seen on the mainline railway (i.e. Network Rail owned tracks as opposed to heritage railways) in the present day.
