Faulty ABS Sensor Results In ABS Error Flashing On The Cluster
We had this 2016 Skoda Octavia visit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop with a concern relating to that of ABS malfunction error flashing on the car’s cluster meter. Concerned that driving the car in such a state would lead to further complications, the car owner reached out to us for immediate assistance.
Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, an OBD scanning revealed DTC’s relating to a faulty rear left and rear right ABS sensor, which required immediate replacement.
*What is an ABS sensor?
- The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses an ABS sensor which is attached onto either the wheels or onto the axle to measure the rotational speed of the wheels
- Most ABS sensors contain a toothed ring and magnet that’s enclosed with a coil
- Contact between the magnet and ring creates an electric field, which turns into a signal that is sent to the ABS controller
- The ABS controller determines the speed of each wheel or axle. This information is then transmitted to the car’s ECM
- When the ECM sees that a wheel is locking up, the ABS system is then activated
- If a car is also equipped with traction control, the ABS sensor helps control the movement of the car in precarious situations. Hence in instances where the ABS sensor turns faulty, there is also a traction control error over the cluster meter along with an ABS error
*Solution:
- Both faulty rear left & rear right ABS sensors were replaced with new VWAG Genuine ABS sensors
