Dishwasher Door Squeaks When Opened and Closed - Squeaky Dishwasher Door Fix – Easy DIY Hinge Repair
If you have a squeaky dishwasher door, please wait before you call a repairman or buy a new dishwasher. Just watch this short video and it'll help you save some money! My dishwasher door has a really loud squeaking noise whenever I open or close the door.
Now you don’t have to live with this irritating noise anymore! The squeaking is actually coming from the tension of the balance link cable rubbing on plastic pulleys at the bottom of the dishwasher. Originally I thought the noise was coming from the hinge but that definitely wasn't the source of the squeak.
To see and fix the problem, the dishwasher needs to be pulled out a bit. Don’t worry, unmounting a dishwasher isn't difficult and you don’t really have to slide it out very far from the cabinet. After removing any mounting screws, just slide the dishwasher out slowly and watch out for plumbing and electrical connections underneath. There should be enough slack to get the dishwasher out.
Now grab some lubricant like Vaseline or lithium grease. I’m using petroleum jelly from a lip balm since that's all I had available. Basically the balance link cable needs to be greased up so it slides smoothly between the pulleys. Apply lubricant along the path of the cable and repeat the process on the other side.
When you're done, open and close the dishwasher door a few times and the squeaking sound will quickly fade away. No more waking or annoying everyone in the house with a squeaky dishwasher door!
