Hey B-squad!! Here's a vlog style video on how to run a taxi company In Jamaica * with links * I also took you along with me to run some errands for the taxi and personal. I also wanted to take the time to answer a couple questions about the taxi business in general.
1. Experience, pros and cons of the business
⊹ Personally it is a stressful experience and I wouldn't recommend it if you get stressed easily because you WILL GET STRESSED often. If you can manage stress then it won't be as bad because it does make money, you get to interact with a lot of people from drivers, to mechanics, to business owners and other gov't, business employees so that part is nice ( make links ). Again you do make money but money is also spent if there are accidents, repairs cosmetic, insurance, license renewals etc
2. Accidents
⊹ If you do what you are supposed to do then you'll be ok. GET YOUR PROPER INSURANCE! Get valid drivers with PPV License not your cousin who says he can drive it for you!!! Trust Me. If your vehicle gets into an accident you'll want to make sure you and your driver & passengers are covered. Don't forget to make sure your vehicle is road worthy ( don't be cheap PLEASE spend the money to fix your vehicle because you have peoples lives in your hands! )
3. Getting paid
⊹ Collect money every couple days, don't wait a week to collect your money! also use this time to inspect the vehicle as the drivers are the ones that keep and care for the car when you don't have it ( also not that drivers are responsible for brakes!!! given that they don't do something stupid and damage your vehicle, then they have to pay for it I.e drive the car through heavy rain and damage engine, hit a dog and damage radiator, things like that ) You'll want to ask around about how much to collect because pre covid collection is not the same as now. The country is slowly going back to pre-covid so you might be collecting more money but based on where you're running a taxi, the collection will vary ( Take into consideration if a lockdown or curfew is in place ) . The same goes for green plate vehicles
4. Driver selection
⊹ Get a referral from a driver you know or from an owner. But be aware that people do what they want. A driver might be good one day and terrible the next day! This is your vehicle and don't be afraid to tell the driver to park your car! don't be bullied by a driver because they can find other vehicles! that doesn't mean you can, if something were to happen to your car!
