Early Birds: Richard Rawlings on His Special Pontiac Pair Taking Flight at Mecum Kissimmee // Ep. 36

Hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman have their eyes on a very rare pair of birds crossing the block at the upcoming Mecum Kissimmee auction, but before their Pontiac conversation takes flight, there’s car news to jump into.

John kicks off this episode by discussing Ford’s announcement that the upcoming Ford F150 Tremor package will receive the 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 and 10-speed automatic that can also be found in the brand’s off-road icon, the Raptor. The Ford focus continues with the guys chatting about how the brand is working with dealers to get ready for the arrival of the all-electric Mustang Mach-E and how Bronco Sports are showing up in showrooms.

Then, Matt shares Alfa Romeo’s plans to send off the 4C with a special edition called the 33 Stradale Tributo. Just 33 will be built, each costing $79,995, and all will come painted in exclusive Rosso Villa d’Este tri-coat paint with gray-gold 5-hole alloy wheels and a black and tobacco interior.

In the second segment, the guys are hanging with Gas Monkey Garage TV star Richard Rawlings. Their conversation is light, but there’s no monkeying around when it comes to what he’s bringing to the Kissimmee auction: the Serial No. 001 and 002 1967 Firebirds.

Both cars are from Richard’s personal collection, and each has received a nut-and-bolt, concours-quality rotisserie restoration. Richard goes into how he acquired the cars, their overhauls and even tells of how they traveled to Saudi Arabia for a special automotive event. Along the way he shares some of his upcoming projects, including a new podcast in the works and three new television shows.

Rounding out this week’s On The Move, Matt and John unveil the official Mecum 2021 Collector Car Auction schedule, delving into all 11 of the events slated to be held across the country in the coming year. Both share personal highlights from past auctions, as well as some memorable moments. Officially capping off the episode, they share a bit about the origin of the On the Move podcast, how it’s grown, a hint at big production plans and some of their favorite shows along the way.
