2003 04 05 Chevrolet Cavalier & Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L Fuel Filter Rusted Fuel Line Repair Approach
This video highlights one method to repair a rusted / corroded fuel filter fitting and or hard fuel line connection without having to replace the entire OEM fuel line. The genuine GM / ACDelco part numbers are included for the filter needed for the replacement. A steel gasoline fuel line repair kit from NAPA auto parts part number 730-4929 (which should include an 18" section of fuel line with an o-ring and fitting on one end and a NAPA brass fuel line compression union 730-5007 together as a kit) is also required. Cut the steel fuel line in the repair kit to fit your repair needs, and bend to shape using a tubing bender tool before using the brass union fittings to securely and safely join the steel lines together leak free.
The specific vehicle shown is a 2004 Chevy Cavalier, but the procedure also applies directly to 2003 and 2005 models as well as the same three year Pontiac Sunfire models. While the layout may differ, I would expect it to cover 2002 and earlier models as well. This kind of gas line corrosion damage is typical for many vehicles driven in north eastern states due to road salt corrosion.
