Cost-effective truck wheel bearing repair with pre-mounted unit - FAG Repair Insert Unit RIU
This film shows the removal and installation of the wheel bearing unit on a truck with disc brakes.
After the wheel hub with brake disc has been removed, the old wheel bearing unit gets dismantled and the hub unit is cleaned. The new wheel bearing unit, which is a repair insert unit (RIU), is then pressed into place using a hydraulic press.
A special tool (red) supplied with the unit is used for press-fitting, along with a thrust washer of similar diameter. Once the two bearing units (inboard and outboard) have been pressed in, the wheel hub unit is pushed onto the axle and the central nut is tightened to the prescribed torque using a suitable torque wrench (follow manufacturer's instructions).
The Repair Insert Unit is a closed wheel bearing unit for commercial vehicles that is pre-assembled at the factory and lubricated for life, thus enabling high mileage.
Wheel bearings as well as wheel hubs are safety components and are among the most heavily loaded components in a truck. As they are not subject to any maintenance interval, repairs should be carried out in an appropriately professional manner.
