PTI | How to perform a basic Intermodal Chassis Pre-Trip

In this video, we are going to show you a basic overview of how to perform a pre-trip on an intermodal chassis.

Intermodal equipment, mainly chassis, is trailing equipment that is used in the intermodal transportation of containers. An Intermodal Equipment Provider facilitates the transport of goods with intermodal equipment and is responsible for systematically inspecting, repairing, and maintaining the chassis. A chassis is a special trailer or undercarriage used to transport ocean and rail containers over the road. A chassis will be necessary for a shipment traveling by truck. A tri-axle chassis will be used for overweight FCL shipments traveling by truck.

With that, here's what we will cover in this video: Driver Training Instructor, Ross Christensen discusses what to look for on the front, underside, and back of the container and chassis. He explains where to find the registration. He also demonstrates what to look for on the axle, wheels and brakes of the chassis.
