Today in our 2015 Hyundai Tucson, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the CURT class 2 custom fit trailer hitch receiver. This is an 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" opening, its part number is C12030. Here's what our hitch looks like installed, as you can see not a whole lot going on here in the back of the car. All of our supports are kind of up and out of the way and we're just going to have our small receiver tube opening here that we'll be able to see visually . This is an 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" opening. It's a class 2 hitch, that means any of the class 2 or class 1 accessory should work out fine.

As far as your hitch pins go, be sure it's class 2 rated, you want to have enough weight there. Measuring we see, we've got a 1/2" inch pen hole diameter there and plenty of room on each side. If you're doing a pinning clip, locking hitch pins, anti-rattle devices, you should be able to operate those without any kind of issue. We've got safety chain connection points here on either side, shouldn't be a big deal in getting those connected. As far as towing goes, we're going to have a 350 pound tongue weight rating, that's the maximum downward force we can put here in our receiver tube opening and we're going to have a gross trailer weight rating of 3500 pounds. That's going to be the total of our trailer and anything else that we've got loaded up on that.

Of course we do want to look into the owner's manual, the Tucson, see what rate it's rated for and then go off with whichever of those members are the lowest. A couple of measurements that are going to be helpful in selecting your ball mount, bike rack or maybe hitch cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside top edge of a receiver tube opening, we've got about 13-1/2". Then from center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about 4". First thing we want to do is clean out our attachment points. We're going to have two here on the driver's side, and there going to be existing weld nuts. This one will take a little spray lubricant, spray it in there and then we're going to clean it out with our nylon tube brush here.

This is part number 814092, just to get any undercoating or any dirt or anything like that, that might be in those threads out. We're going to pick the exact same location over here on our passenger side. Once we have those cleaned out, we're ready to grab our hitch and we can raise it into position. We're going to be using our supplied hardware and each one of those is going to have a conical tooth washer on it. We want the teeth of that washer to face up towards our hitch.

You can raise it in position. We get our passenger side over our exhaust first, then we can raise our driver's side into position. We'll just line up the hole and the hitch with the weld nut. Then we get to bolt thread in on each side, we want to get inaudible 00:02:40 in there 3, 4, 5 times just to hold. The same thing here on the driver's side. While it's resting there we'll just get our other two fasteners started. Now, let's take a quick look here to be sure we've got our hitch center, then we can snug those fasteners down and torque them down to the specifications we'll find our instructions. With that nice and secure, that's going to complete today's installation of the CURT custom fit class 2 trailer hitch receiver, part number C12030 on our 2015 Hyundai Tucson.
