Three Versions of Porsche Convertible Top Control Units
This video covers Porsche convertible control units for vehicles going back to 1987.
The first unit pictured is referred to as a "three-pin" convertible control unit, due to the three pins at the far right end of the device. It is meant for the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 but is no longer produced, nor is the second unit displayed in the video known as a "four-pin" convertible control unit meant for the Porsche 964. Dealerships do not sell these, and they are not designed to be interchangeable.
The final unit showcased above is known as a "five-pin" convertible control unit. This is the unit that dealerships now sell regardless of make or model. Dealerships will tell you that cars using the previously mentioned convertible control units must be rewired in order to work compatibly with the five-pin control unit.
Instead, you can send your convertible control unit to ECU Doctors, and we will rebuild them into their original state. This saves you time and cost of labor, and allows your car to keep working properly within its original design!
