Toyota Prius Fix and Replace Battery cell repair cheap. Lexus Auris Camry Toyota DIY
How to fix a Prius (And many other Toyota and Lexus Models) HV battery. This is the job Toyota wont do and charge thousands of £££s to replace the entire battery. This cost me £25 to fix myself.
Also: Check out my NEW channel 'Ratarossa' for great Supercar Videos and fixes.
Note: Safety first ALWAYS remove the Orange High Voltage plug from the battery first before starting any work (takes 2 seconds to remove and replace after), the battery is high voltage 200+V so be 100% safe. Only attempt this job if you have an understanding of electrics.
I also diconnected the normal 12v car battery to be 100% sure.
Fault wise my car a 2006, had all the dash warning lights and check engine management lights, VSC on and also the fan vent on the side of the rear seat was constantly working overtime ! My car has 165k Miles on it
Once you have got the battery out its a simple job to diagnose which is the failing battery cell. I got a replacement single cell from eBay for £25 inc shipping and thats all it took to fix it.
Tools wise again very simple
1 x 8mm socket
1x 10mm socket
1x 12mm socket
1x 14mm socket (for the 4x rear seat bolts)
1x Multimeter (to read the individual battery cell voltages) cheap mine was about £20.
Note: When I reinstalled I still had a warning light (Triangle) on the dash, this seems normal. After putting car in Drive and reverse a few times, taking it for a quick drive down the road and powering the car on and off this then resets itself.
Good luck and please stay safe. Share the knowledge.
