Widening Driveway Ideas Part 2 | How To Expand Driveway Using Holland Pavers & Asphalt Patch w/Aiman
If you haven't watched Part 1, you may want to click on the following link: Basically, Aiman's dad is thinking about widening their driveway by a few feet to accommodate having two rows of cars. They have a special event going on the next few weeks so they need to complete this project real fast. They're also faced with other dilemmas, primarily with money and manpower.
One of the biggest obstacles faced by Aiman's dad was inability to complete the entire project in a day or two because of manpower and work schedules. Therefore, he opted to go with using Holland pavers or also known as patio bricks. This option gave him the ability to complete the project over several days or weeks.
After digging the ground, he laid down the borders using 2x8x16 patio bricks. After filling and compacting the dirt using gravels and sand, he filled the expanded sections with 2x4x8 pavers. Once the entire sections have been filled with patio bricks he filled the gaps with tiny gravels and topped it with asphalt patch or pavement repair also known as the cold patch. This QPR or Quickrete pavement repair can be purchased from Home Depot, Lowes or other building supplies stores.
The main reason for expanding the driveway is because Aiman's brother is getting married in the next couple of weeks, and his dad wanted to be able to fit more cars in their driveway.
We actually took several video clips to show the progress along the way, unfortunately we were not able to locate those clips for this video.
Also in the second half of the video, Aiman showed the bridal arbor that was built by his dad. Bridal arbors can be constructed cheaply instead of buying a professionally made one. The arbor would be decorated anyways, so the skeleton arbor is probably not as important in terms of prices. You can look at the result at the end of the videos.
The driveway actually came out pretty nice, they are still a few kinks that needed to be worked out. For example, the pavers needed to be re-adjusted or re-leveled because of the weight of the vehicles driven on top of it. Apparently they base wasn't compacted properly. But that's a topic for another video...
