The Mazda RX-7 is arguably the best looking 90's JDM car that still turns heads to this day!. It's Wankel rotary engine (the 13B in this case) produces a distinct note which is well known amongst car enthusiasts and helps to differentiate this car from any other Japanese sports cars of the time. With a peppy power delivery band that is a signature of its unique rotary engine combined with its 50-50 weight distribution it makes for a potent package.
Lesser known is its history in Australian motorsport where it took on and beat the Porsche 968 and 993 Clubsport in the gruelling Bathurst 12 Hour in the 90's which this version known as the 'Bathurst R' was built to pay tribute to its success.
So come along with Grip Auto and myself as we review one of Japan's finest sports cars.
