DESCRIPTION
Regarded by many Ford enthusiasts as one of the finest designs to own, the 1934 model year is quite the prize for any FOMOCO collector! Superb body lines and raked front grill with wide surround, vertical hood slats with two release levers instead of one, and slightly smaller headlights & cowl lamps made for an incredibly handsome car that mimicked much more expensive vehicles of the same era. An increase in V8 engine performance to 85 horsepower didn't hurt sales either!
We are very pleased to offer #forsale a gorgeous 1934 Ford Model 40B DeLuxe Fordor Sedan. Tastefully finished in Gloss Black with Grey Striped Broadcloth interior, this example was restored to be shown and driven with utmost confidence. Powering this all factory steel sedan is its original 221ci Flathead V8 with Stromberg 97 carburetion and 3-speed manual transmission. Other features include red wire spoke wheels with chrome hubcaps, matching red DeLuxe triple line body pinstripe, Firestone Deluxe Champion 5.25-5.50x17 black sidewall tires, rear-mounted spare with steel cover, leaping greyhound hood ornament, front & rear bumper guards, vacuum-powered wipers, chrome tilt-out front windshield, cigar lighter & ashtray, passenger armrests, beveled rearview mirror, correct twin Sparton chrome horns & cowl lamps, and fitted rubber floor matting in front with carpeted rear passenger compartment.
Surviving with an incredibly solid body and rust-free chassis, along with a great running engine and wonderful driving capabilities, will make this Ford a must have for your collection! The history of this car began in the New Hampshire area before it traded hands within the family estate to relocate it to Naperville, IL. It would remain with the same family until 1999 before trading hands to a local Ford/Mercury collector in St. Paul, Missouri who took eager possession in May 1999. He would thoroughly enjoy this DeLuxe Fordor in its all-original state for many years, sharing his treasure at several Early V8 Ford Club events, trailering it to many national meets, even driving it for fun on numerous historic racetracks that included Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Bristol, Talladega, and Charlotte Motor Speedways!
The engine has already been enhanced with later generation 21-stud 68-6049/6050B cast iron heads which required upgraded domed pistons. We believe this was completed while the car was still with the original owners early in life. The exterior paint restoration was professionally commenced in 2010 back to its original color, although the original wheel and pinstripe color was changed from Tacoma Cream to red. Sadly, the longtime owner passed away in August 2017 and the St. Louis Car Museum would come to own this time capsule in August 2020 when his beloved family decided it was time to let it go. Due to the factory cloth interior upholstery's degree of distress and age, we elected to completely refurbish the interior with a correct & complete replacement kit provided from Cartouche along with beautifully refinishing the painted woodgrain dash & garnish moldings to look new once again! This included new door panels, door handles, window cranks, escutcheons & set pins, as well as overhead headliner. We even opted for replacement of every piece of the laminated window glass for new. The new Coker Firestone tires, tubes, and inner wheel liners were replaced in December 2021!
It retains correct cloth-covered wiring throughout and proper dash instrumentation. The odometer now shows only 75,973 miles, and although we have no substantial evidence to support an original mileage claim, it is very likely to be actual miles in our opinion. As with most cars of this vintage, it is being sold mileage exempt. Included with the sale will be “as-found” pictures of the car parked since 2017 and several interior restoration pictures highlighting the absolutely rust-free floor and foundation preserved underneath! The gas tank was replaced along with new sender unit (factory viscus fuel gauge in-op), the original Stromberg 2-barrel downdraft carburetor fully rebuilt with new float, diaphragm, as well as new fuel pump and sediment bowl. The spark plugs and wires were replaced, and the engine compartment detailed for a sharp presentation!
Known for their elegant style, comfort, and reliability, these gorgeous deluxe sedans were further endorsed into history as famous, speedy getaway cars by the likes of #BonnieAndClyde and John Dillinger!
