Mercedes-Benz - Removal & Installation of the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST sensor
How to do Removal & Installation of the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST sensor on Mercedes-Benz Cars. (C117 - CLA-Class), (W156 - GLA-Class), (W176 - A-Class), (W242 - B-Class), (W246 - B-Class)
Instructions:
the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST sensor is located behind the star
if you want to work on the sensor then you need to remove the star
use the assembly wedge for this
place the assembly wedge on the right end of the star
unlock the plastic clip located here
the star has now been removed
disconnect the sensor connector
note that the center is locked in place
now you can remove the sensor
place the cover on a clean cloth to protect it against scratches and damage
release the clip in order to remove the sensor
now you can pull out the sensor
this enables you to replace the distance warning sensor if necessary
when you remount the sensor ensure that it's seated correctly
important for the reinstallation
insert the tip of the star first of all
now it's time to use star diagnosis
connect the vehicle to star diagnosis and then select engine and transmission
the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST control unit is located under distance warning function control unit
in our case it's deactivated
you can easily activate or deactivate it in the vehicle using the multifunction steering wheel select assistant systems on the display
here you can activate or deactivate the distance warning system
another example: a vehicle with DISTRONIC
removing the star is the same on a vehicle without DISTRONIC
the difference is behind the star
the sensor is not mounted directly on the star but slightly further behind the cover
it's easily pulled out and can simply be removed after you've disconnected the connector.
