1997 - 2010 GM 4WD K Truck Axle Half Shaft CV Joint Outer Boot Replacement Re-Boot (Chevrolet & GMC)

In this video we will identify and go over the repair for a split, cracked, or otherwise damaged constant velocity (CV) joint outer black boot cover. This repair involves removing the front axle or half shaft assembly from the vehicle. Then disassembly of the half shaft outer joint by removing the two swage clamps that secure the boot, and disassembling the outer race assembly (inner race, ball bearings, and bearing cage) for deep cleaning cleaning of the axle grease inside. GM part numbers and special tools required are shown in the video.

The vehicle illustrated is a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 with the 6.5L diesel option (thus effectively making this a K2500 class assembly in the video as it has 8 lug wheels). The parts apply to any GMT400 style K1500, K2500, or K3500 from Chevy, Cadillac, GMC, Holden, or Hummer though from 97 thru 2010. The tools, procedure, and techniques shown though indirectly apply to earlier model OBS (old body style) K trucks.
