This is basically just a two tone paint job with a stripe in the middle. However, the same methods can be used when painting bigger stripes, such as racing stripes. The car has already been prepped, masked, and primer sealer applied. Next we sprayed the color of the stripe. Once that is sprayed we can start masking where the strike will be. 3M makes fine line tape like this blue tape that works great for striping. Go around the car one panel at a time applying the blue tape. It is very important to attach the tape to one end of a panel and pull it down the entire panel at one time. Do not try to tape little sections at a time. This will always result in wavy and even lines. Once you have masked one panel, move to the next panel and stripe it. On this car the stripe is a quarter inch stripe around the entire car dividing the two colors; however, the back is slightly wider and it gradually narrows down to the quarter inch tape. Next we are going to spray the bottom color which is a high hiding color and it will cover the purple without a problem. Once the bottom color is sprayed and dried we will mask from the striped down. First up like 3/4 inch masking tape to outline the fine line tape to provide a wider stripped for masking then use 36 inch paper mask from the stripe down. On the top we're using a silver, which is translucent and does not cover well. Therefore, we are going to spray a high pigment color to cover the purple. This will eliminate trying to cover the purple with many coats of the silver to hide the purple. You do not want to see the purple showing through to your topcoat. Once you have sprayed your high hiding color to match the sealer, then apply your silver. Now you will have no issue with hiding the purple.

Unmask everything on the car and clear coat the entire car. That is all it takes to do multicolor two-tone with a stripe in the middle paint job.
