Mercedes-Benz Sprinter - How to remove / install the instrument panel | W900, W906

Removing the instrument panel on the Sprinter:
It is removed in one piece together with the instrument carrier.
A special consideration on the Sprinter: First empty the air conditioning.
Loosen the hose clamp of the intake hose and detach the hose.
Disconnect the two connectors and unhook the jump-start connection point.
Lift up the air filter housing at the front and remove.
The two test and filler connections of the high and low-pressure lines are now accessible.
Connect the AC service unit.
Wear protective gloves and goggles for safety.
Remove the protective caps.
Connect the red hose of the AC service unit to the thin high-pressure line.
Connect the blue hose to the thicker low-pressure line.
The refrigerant can now be extracted.
This is necessary when removing the instrument panel because parts of the air conditioning are removed with it.
Disconnect the battery ground line.
If the vehicle has a roof antenna, remove the entire front headliner.
Otherwise, the roof antenna cable and wiring harness are not accessible.
Start with the A-pillar trim.
Remove the sun visors.
Remove the dome lamp with switches.
When reinstalling, use new screws and tighten to 5 Nm.
Remove the B-pillar trim.
Remove the headliner.
The roof antenna cable and wiring harness are now exposed.
The preparatory work is now complete.
Start removing the instrument panel.
Remove the lower covers in the driver footwell.
Remove the three bolts to do so.
Remove the cover under the air vent.
Remove the cover under the steering wheel.
Remove the trim under the air vent on the right-hand side.
Release the two catch tabs to do so.
Remove the three bolts underneath the glove compartment.
Remove the glove compartment.
Remove the three bolts at the top of the glove box.
Press the trim downwards.
Pull off the cooled air hose.
Disconnect the connector for the illumination.
Remove the glove box.
Using an assembly wedge, remove the panel on the instrument panel centre section.
Disconnect the connectors.
Remove the two screws on both trim parts of the air vents.
Remove both panels to the rear.
Take the floor mat out of the front passenger footwell.
Remove the front cover.
The footwell cover in the centre must be removed here.
Remove the three screws from the floor cover strip on the right-hand entryway step.
The strip is already removed on the left-hand side.
Fold the floor covering to the rear.
Remove the two foam parts.
Remove the four screws from the lower cover of the centre console.
Remove the cover.
Remove the CD changer using the four extraction hooks shown.
Release the four retaining clips of the CD changer with the extraction hooks.
Carefully pull out the CD changer by the hooks.
Disconnect both electrical connectors.
Detach the cover from the gearshift lever.
Lever out the boot at the top left corner.
Lift the corner and slide the cover all the way up.
Remove the five screws highlighted.
Remove the four screws around the cover.
Remove the cover.
Disconnect the connector of the 12 V socket.
Remove the shift unit.
Disconnect the connector.
Remove the two screws attaching the shift unit to the instrument panel.
Tighten the screws to 20 Nm when reinstalling.
Unclip the shift cables at the top using two assembly wedges.
Remove the retainers with a screwdriver.
Detach the shift cables.
Remove the shift unit.
Pull the shift cables through the holes of the shift unit.
Warning: Do not kink the shift cables!
When adjusting the shift mechanism, check for proper operation and re-adjust as necessary.
Remove the three screws from the side air vents.
One is located at the top of the cover.
The other two are located under the rotary light switch.
Remove the air vent.
Disconnect the connector from the rotary light switch on the driver side.
Only remove the three screws highlighted on the passenger side.
Before removing the steering wheel, ensure the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
Remove the two screws on the left and right of the steering wheel.
Tighten both screws to 6 Nm when reinstalling.
Take out the airbag.
Disconnect the airbag squib connector.
Disconnect the line for the horn and steering wheel buttons.
Remove the airbag.
Using a flex head wrench, remove the bolt from the steering shaft.
When reinstalling, use a new bolt and tighten to 80 Nm.
Detach the steering wheel from the steering column.
Carefully guide the cable through the opening on the steering wheel.
Disconnect the four connectors for the roof antenna from the subharness.
Detach the harness from the body.
