Doomsday in Africa! Tsunami-like flash floods drown Conakry, Guinea!
Conakry, Guinea, August 26.2024. The floods that occurred in Conakry yesterday have left behind a heavy human and material toll. The National Agency for the Management of Humanitarian Emergencies and Disasters published a provisional report on the consequences of these storms on the evening of Saturday, August 24. According to the figures provided, one person lost his life and 2 are missing. In terms of material damage, a total of 3,437 households were affected, or 17,185 people. Among the damaged infrastructure, there are 61 water points and 123 latrines, making access to drinking water even more difficult in some areas. This assessment still provisional, underlines the scale of the disaster and the urgency of the actions to be undertaken to help the affected populations. The report also mentions that 7 houses were completely destroyed, plunging several families into precariousness. In addition to these material losses, 14 cars and 8 motorcycles were damaged during the floods. Despite these losses, 306 people were saved thanks to rescue efforts.
