*You will need a left hand drill set, a power drill, and a new car antenna.*
This video is specifically on a Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep vehicle, but the process is similar to other manufacturers where a a piece of the car antenna gets stuck in its antenna mount box.
🧰 Tools needed:
Power Drill:
Optional:
Air Can OR Vacuum
Small squirt of penetrating oil
*Part Needed:*
A Universal car antenna can be purchased around $10 and comes in various sizes. OR you could buy the original car antenna for your vehicle.
*Multiple antennas to choose from:*
📋 INSTRUCTIONS TO REMOVE AND INSTALL:
1) Remove remains of old car antenna if hanging or unscrew counter clockwise if still attached.
2) Put your power drill in reverse
3) Make a small pilot hole in the center using a 1/16" left hand drill bit or as close to this size as possible.
4) Switch to a bigger size such as a 3/32" left hand drill bit to extract the broken or snapped threaded antenna screw bolt out of its roof mounted base. AKA DRILL IT OUT!
5) Get the little shards or pieces of metal out with an air can or vacuum.
6) WATCH this video on how to clean the antenna and its base to provide a better ground connection before you put a replacement antenna in.
7) Grab the new compatible vehicle antenna stick and screw it in clockwise and into the roof base. Make sure it feels tight.
*A new antenna may fix your radio if it was not working properly or if your signal was weak.
If you ever can't get a screw out or the thread is stripped from the top like a Philips head screw. Then the same approach can be done using a reverse drill set. I even did this on a Caliper bolt that snapped during a brake pad change.
