Today, on our 2014 Hyundai Tucson, we'll be installing the Draw-tite hitch, part number 75717. Note, this is what our hitch will look like once installed. Next, we're going to do a couple of measurements to assist your selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is five inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is thirteen and a quarter inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. Now, we'll go ahead with installation. To begin our install, we'll first need to lower the exhaust.
To safely lower the exhaust we're going to put a safely strap underneath it first to help support the weight. With the safety strap in place, we'll then remove the two rubber isolators that hold the muffler. There's one on each side. To remove them, we'll spray each one with some spray lubricant and then take our pry bar and gently push the rubber isolator off the metal hanger. We'll also use a strap around the exhaust to control the decent. Now to secure our hitch, we'll have a total of four attachment points.
These attachment points are weld nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer. We'll use the new 10 mm bolt and conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch to secure it. Next, we'll go ahead and clean out each one of the weld nuts. Over time they build up with rust, dust, dirt, and debris and it can be very difficult to install the new hardware.
Using some spray lubricant, and a half inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092, we'll thoroughly clean out the threads of the weld nut and then go and take one of the new fasteners and thread it into the weld nuts to make sure they go nice and easily. Now, with all the weld nuts cleared out, we're ready to install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. We'll then bring the hitch over the exhaust and up to the frame and install the 10 mm bolts into the weld nuts, finger tight. Once we have them all in place, we'll go ahead and tighten them down, and then torque to specifications, as indicated in instructions. Now with the hitch secured to our specifications, we'll go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. With that, it's completed our install of the Draw-tite hitch, part number 75717, on our 2014 Hyundai.
