Repairing stripped threads in an aluminum engine block
While replacing the water pump on this 2012 Subaru WRX, I found two bolt holes were stripped out. This is not a sponsored video and I bought the thread repair kit with my own money. I chose Time-Sert because it doesn't remove as much material as some of their competitors. The inserts are solid. The installation tools are high quality and have excellent cutting edges. The inserts are only as big as they need to be. And the room around the bolt holes was limited. We needed to preserve area around the bolt holes for the gasket. So this Time-Sert kit was the perfect choice for this repair.

Thanks so much for visiting my channel today. Hopefully this helps someone get the confidence to DIY.
I'll be publishing more videos on this car's repair job. What started out as a simple timing belt and cam seal job turned into a nightmare 29 hour job. I know I took this one really slowly and carefully, but now the car is back together and running.
