You wont save much if you go to a Mexican dealership services in border towns, such as Tijuana or Mexicali. My Honda Pilot 60,000 mile service added up to $9,529MX plus $1,524MX tax. Maybe a little on tax and service. My car needed timing belt, tension belt, spark plug, oil change, air filter and all the “inspections” they do at the dealership. ($17.5MX to $1US) The best thing is to know a good honest mechanic that doesn’t have Air Conditioned Executive office overhead.

If you can find a reputable and trustworthy mechanic who knows what he's doing, then yes, it would make sense. The auto dealerships usually have very reliable service and their personnel are constantly being sent to courses to update their knowledge and to familiarize them with newer models.
I have had things done in Mexico a few times, by people who came with a good recommendation. The advantage is that you get good workmanship. The disadvantage is that their methods and materials are sometimes unique. OK, this could be an advantage, but when it comes to a car repair it might not be a good thing. I might get cosmetic work done on a car in Mexico (paint, etc.) if I knew someone who was well recommended who gave me a very competitive price. I don’t think I would get anything mechanical done in Mexico. I need to know the right parts were used, and I want to be able to take the car back if there is an issue. I am not sure I would be able to get this from a shop in Mexico.
