Fix Power Windows That Vibrate or Jerk. Repair Stuck or Jammed Car Truck Electric Windows Noise

Updated 2022/08/06 Details are in the description. This gearbox was making the window vibrate on the way up and down. I fixed the window vibration by adding shims to the 3 (worn out) flat gearbox pucks that absorb vibration and shock. This may not be the same exact gearbox as yours, but maybe it'll help you figure out how to get yours apart and how to shim the pucks to stop the vibration. Mine would also jam at the bottom occasionally. Only time will tell if the shimming also helps keep the gears from binding up and jamming.

Please feel free to ask questions and leave comments.

Before I took the motor apart, I checked to make sure it was pulling amperage. It was pulling about 20 amps. That told me it wasn't a wiring or motor brush problem. I tried adjusting the tracks, shimming the guides, lubricating everything, and everything else I read about. Even banging on the motor. Nothing helped either problem.

I highly recommend you get a clamp meter to read the amperage, so you can eliminate a wiring problem. If you don't want to, just turn the key on, but don't start the motor. Watch the interior lights when you operate a working window. At the end of travel, you can usually see the lights dim. If the non-working window doesn't dim the lights, you may have a switch, motor brush, or other electrical problem. If you buy a meter, be sure to get one that does DC high amperage. Most don't. I got a Klein CL390. It does up to 400 amps DC. Great for troubleshooting high amperage devices like starters, alternators, blowers, and window motors.

For the jamming issue, in case you don't have time to fix or replace your motor just yet, here are some notes on the things I tried before I decided to take the motor apart....
The easiest thing I found to get it going again... I was able to loosen the 4 bolts that hold the motor to the door. As soon as the 4th bolt is broken free, the motor would start working again.
Did not work: I tried putting washers between the metal part of the door and the motor frame.
Did not work: Hitting the bolts and other parts with a hammer.

I would suggest that you keep the tools you need to get the panel off and un-jam the motor, in case you are away from home when it jams.

I was in a bit a rush, so I didn't check the brass bushing very close. If I continue to have the jamming problem, I may see if I can drive the bushing out cut a slot in it, and add a thin shim material around the outer edge to reduce the inner diameter. Sounds like a long-shot.

In some videos, people replace the pucks with pieces of metal. I don't recommend this. If it only caused damage to the motor, no big deal because you need to replace it anyway. But, you could damage other parts of the window system.

Also look up the ground location for the window motor. Bad ground connections can make troubleshooting very difficult. An easy way to check for ground problems, it so attach a large wire under one of the bolts for the window motor and then attach it to another good bolt on the main part of the body, or use a jumper cable to the battery. If the problem goes away, you have a bad ground.

Again, please feel free to ask questions and leave comments. I try to help, and the questions help me remember the things I forget to address in the description.
