Sticky Door Handle Repair - Fix Your Sticky BMW or Saab Car Door Handle - Buttons Too!
Repair your sticky car door handle in just 20 minutes! If you own a BMW, Saab, or any European car you're probably familiar with sticky buttons and sticky door handles (door pulls). Most European cars use a rubberized coating over plastic interior pieces, which gives them a matte finish that is pleasing to the touch. Unfortunately after years of sun and heat the glue in this rubberized coating degrades, leaving sticky buttons and door handles. The good news is it's an easy fix, you don't need to replace the door handles or buttons.
What you'll need: Two Solo cups, two paint brushes, Goo Gone, Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, a plastic razor blade and scraper, and paper towels (or a microfiber towel).
This fix will work on most BMWs (X5, X3, e90, e92, F30, F10), most Saabs (9-3, 9-5), Jaguars, Ferraris, and most other European luxury cars.
Once you've removed the coating you'll be left with shiny plastic. If you want to restore the factory look, simply remove the door handles, scuff them with sandpaper or an abrasive pad and apply a rubber coating or Plasti Dip. Once dry, reinstall the door handles for a fresh from the factory look!
If you're looking only for a sticky button fix, the same process applies, though you might find it easier (and less abrasive) to use a towel instead of the plastic razor blade and scraper. Buttons have words or pictures that are sometimes painted on, so be careful! Rub gently, and try Goo Gone first, moving to rubbing alcohol only if necessary,
