The Mauve coloured Wide Gauge Bombardier that we rebuilt over the winter broke a cleat when it got unloaded by the tow truck. Originally customer took it home and had it locked up and someone broke in to his garage and tried to steal it. Now it is an Autopac claim.
Checking your cleat wear should be a part of your pre-trip inspection. Cleats are pretty tough but when they get worn down they can break and if you are not watching the cleats next to them can break as well. Eventually it will wreck your sprockets and the belt. So it takes two minutes to check and replacing one cleat is easier in your shop rather than out in the field.
