The following is just my opinion. Never work on your cooling system when your engine is hot. It is under pressure & the coolant in the hoses is scalding hot. Never remove your radiator cap when the engine is hot, the coolant is under pressure & may seriously burn you & cause injury.
This video demonstrates a quick fix for a smaller coolant hose. Larger coolant hoses may be more difficult. Putting masking tape or tape on any major upper/lower coolant hose is a terrible idea, will likely be inaffective, & could lead to further problems. It is best to get your car towed & seek the help of a professional mechanic.
Driving with no coolant will overheat your engine & could lead to engine failure.
The 3/8" hose barb slicer was the correct size for the coolant hose in the video.
Probably not a good idea to run coolant through that brass hose barb permanently as it could rust or cause a reaction. Best to eventually replace it the proper way.
When using flathead type hose clamps be carefull not to over tighten them or it will likely break plastic fittings if too tight.
Btw, the hose barb splicer 3/8" is the one that fit my Mercedes.
