We had this 2010 Honda City visit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop for an annual service along with a concern relating to that of abnormal noise being observed from the front side of the car while driving especially across uneven road surfaces along with another strange metallic noise being particularly observed while turning the steering across turns. With driving the car becoming increasingly unstable overtime, the car owner reached out to us for immediate assistance.
Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, the front suspension of the car was observed to be weak with the front shock absorbers having gone completely hard and requiring an immediate replacement. The suspension link rods also required replacement. While the steering subframe assembly was observed to be heavily corroded with significant play observed both in the steering rack along with the end ball joints.
*Function of the steering rack:
- Steering rack consists rack and pinion gears, whose primary function is to convert the rotational motion from the steering wheel onto linear motion required in order to turn the car’s wheels
*Symptoms of a faulty steering rack:
- Steering fluid leakage
- Grinding noise while steering
- Car pulling to one side
*Function of shock absorbers:
- Shock absorbers are designed to absorb or dampen the compression and rebound of the springs and suspension
- Shock absorbers control the unwanted and excess spring motion, thereby keeping the car’s tyres firmly in contact with the road at all times
*Symptoms of weak shock absorbers:
- Abnormal noise observed from the suspension & steering system
- Premature / Uneven tyre wear
- Accelerated wear of shock absorbers
- Instability / Excess vibration while driving
- Poor wheel alignment
*Solution:
- Front both Shockabsorber Assembly replaced
- lower arm assembly replaced
- stabalizer linkage replaced
- steering rack was repaired
