Capacitors Explained! (Super Simple/No Math Demonstration)

Capacitors explained simply using a live demonstration with an automotive LED light bulb. So many videos on YouTube get heavy into the math and it seemed like a basic video with capacitors explained simply using a real life example would be of benefit to people.

Capacitors are an electrical storage component similar to a battery, but capable of charging and discharging much more quickly and completely. A capacitor can be used in parallel with a light to keep it illuminated for a while after power is taken away, allowing it to fade out slowly instead of turning off instantly.

Capacitors in parallel with a component behave differently than if they were in series with it. Electricity would flow until the capacitor was charged, and then the capacitor would have to be discharged in order to allow current to flow again. (I probably should have shown an example of this, but it would have been a weird dead-end to the video that would have ruined the pacing.)

Shown in the video was a pair of 5600 micro farad capacitors rated for 16V. I have a bunch of them that I will be using in an upcoming video where I use them to modify automotive lighting. Remember Captain Capacitor from ReBoot? That was such a good show.
