2018 Kia Sorento Wheel Stud Replacement (read desc for instructions) - DIY for sure !
This is DIY with common tools and if you take your time to work safely . Read this instruction if you have AWD model . Section about blocking brake caliper piston before starting the engine to shift the transmission into neutral. I had to do that in order to rotate the front hub assembly to access the 10 mm bolt to remove the brake shield.
Repair estimate time : 2 hrs if you have all the tools by your side.
Replace broken wheel stud on 2018 Kia Sorento AWD:
1/ Block the wheels and support the vehicle safely to make sure the vehicle does not move while the wheel is off the vehicle.
2/ Remove the wheel and brake component off using 14 mm for caliper bolt and 17 mm caliber hanger bolts.
3/ Support the brake caliper with hanger
4/ remove brake rotor - carefully remove two Phillip screws with impact screw driver - if you don’t have impact screw driver.
Caution: Since this vehicle is AWD , once the brake caliper removed , you need to block the caliper piston before pressing the brake pedal to the engine . Use wooden block and wedge in between the piston and caliper. DO NOT APPLY BRAKE unless you block the brake piston from moving!
5/ Remove heat shield with 10 mm socket . Rotate the hub assembly to access the head of 10mm bolt through access hole.
6/ Remove broken stud using hammer to knock it off or using air hammer like I did.
7/ install stud with OEM stud. Use wheel lug nut to pull it in slowly. Check the head of the stud to make sure it is fully seated in the hub assembly .
