International Harvester did a joint venture with Komatsu in the late 1979s. The joint venture was called KIMCO (Komatsu International Manufacturing Company) Komatsu manufactured the IH designed 510, 515, and 520 Payloaders for International Harvester and also sold some under the Komatsu name overseas.
In 1982 Dresser Industries purchased and took over the International Harvester Payline division. Dresser continued production of the 510 and 515 and eventually changed from IH sourced engines to Cummins in these models. The 510 and 515 remained in production through the joint venture between Dresser Industries and Komatsu, and eventually purchased by Komatsu. The models in similar form were still produced until the late 00s under license by Huta Stalowa Wola of Poland under the Dressta name.

The 510 Payloader was the smallest articulated loader in the IH 500 series lineup, and comparable to a Caterpillar 910 wheel loader. John Deere did not offer a comparable loader at the time.
The 510 uses a International Harvester D268 diesel engine rated at 80 hp, and the S-710 3 speed powershift transmission.
