Nakamura Miku left big city life to volunteer in the relief efforts following the Great Tohoku Earthquake of 2011, and the subsequent tsunami. In the Miyagi prefecture town Minamisanriku, she was “drawn to resilience and strength of the local people” and decided to move permanently. This female entrepreneur and mother now has a thriving indigo clothing business, and is an active participant in a community-based project to help restore traditional rural Japanese homes.
