Always start by testing your thermostat to see if it works correctly. Thermostat that is stuck close or open can cause BMW to overheat. Inspect and test to see if the water pump is working correctly, and always check the radiator fan. We have a video that explains how to test radiator fan. Also make sure the cooling system bleeding procedure was followed and that you have enough coolant in the system. We demonstrated what causes BMW engine to overheat on 3 series but the same procedure may apply to multiple models since BMW reuses their engines in multiple models.
