I put a lot of effort and invested a lot of money in this restoration. I hope you will enjoy how I restored this Tonka Ser-Vi-Car toy from 1960.
Story of this restoration:
So, I saw this toy by chance on EBay, I noticed that it costs a lot and I wondered why: the answer I found is that there are few toys like this for sale. So,I negotiated with the seller from $99 to $65, he liked the idea of restoring it, so he sent it to me. The toy came to me, I inspected it and deduced that it needed many original parts to restore it professionally. Some parts cost a lot of money, others I was able to creating like the original ones.
I felt that by investing a lot of money in this restoration project, I have to offer you a plus of quality and also to move to a new level of restoration. So I decided to paint with powder (powder coating) , although I have never done it before in my life. This happened somewhere in the middle of the video and after many attempts and tests, I saw the results : they were amazing. I have since known that this restoration video will be wonderful.
As I said, in order for this restoration to be done as professionally as possible, I had to buy some parts. But the biggest challenge of this restoration project was when I realized that I can't find to buy the fork of this Tonka toy. It was the moment when I decided it was the time to document what it looked like and start creating a new one. Once again, the result was wonderful.
The total investment for this restoration reached $ 115, in this calculation we did not add the cost of delivery because this is relative depending on the area of each. But even these shipments were expensive because most of the spare parts, I ordered from the US to Romania.
I like to restore old and rusty items but especially I like to restore Tonka toys. They have a great history behind these toys and many of the viewers will have memories. I hope you like this restoration video like I do and enjoy every moment of the video. I say this because in the process of creating videos for you, every time I try to make the restoration process as easy to understand as possible and the narrative thread of the restoration to be easy to follow.
Last but not least, I would like to thank Tifoo.de for sending me a good quality nickel and nickel solution. After restoring the rear axle of the toy and creating the new fork, I had to apply a layer of nickel to protect them from rust. Their products have helped me a lot in this restoration. That's why I will leave here a link with their online store:
You will find many solutions in case you want to do some restorations at home. The method to buy is easy, they are professionals in delivering and packaging the package, but all you need to know is that the only way you can buy nickel solution is if you have a company license. Otherwise, the other products have no restrictions in ordering.
I have no other sponsors for tools and equipment so if you are interested in something specific, write me a comment and I will answer you, as I answer the restorations posted a year ago. Also, if you want to restore Tonka, or restore anything else and do not know where to start, or a certain process, I am at your disposal with any information you need to complete the restoration.
