Worn Out Tappet Cover Packing Results In Engine Oil Leakage
We had this 2014 Volkswagen Vento visit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop for an annual service. Intending to use the car for a long distance journey, the car owner wanted to have the car thoroughly inspected and hence reached out to us for assistance.
Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, there was heavy leakage of engine oil observed from the tappet. Upon dismantling the tappet cover, the tappet packing was observed to have completely worn out, requiring immediate replacement.
*Function of tappet cover packing:
- The tappet cover packing is a protective rubber material designed to properly seal the cylinder. The tappet cover packing prevents any oil or fuel from leaking out of the engine, as it travels around the camshafts rockers and valves
*Symptoms of a worn out tappet cover packing:
- Buring oil smell
- Valve cover is dirty and leaking oil
- Engine is low on oil level
- Check engine light on cluster
*Solution:
- Injectors Service Was Performed
- Injector Return Pipe Was Replaced Due To Sludge Straces Inside The Pipe
- The tappet cover was cleaned and new tappet cover packing was installed
- Annual service was performed
